SXSW

I think I have the hang of this blog tomfoolery, and am fairly sure it will soon evolve into addiction.

But! South by Southwest was last week. A great time was had by all, despite the fact that it wasn't the all out party I had expected. That's probably for the best, however, because we were busy every day.

Drove down on Wednesday, early night. Woke up Thursday, had a show at 2:00 p.m. at Stubb's. Some Pinnacle thing. I wasn't really paying attention. Spend the rest of Thursday knee deep in barbeque sauce. Saw our buddy Taylor's band Young Heart Attack. They were seriously kickass. Spend the rest of the night after YHA entertaining drunk concert-goers with our mind reading abilities. If you ever come to a GG show, ask us to do it. We're pretty good. Toby taught us how to do it.

Woke up Friday. Rehearsed all day. Passed out some fliers. Watch Ash play. Watch Ash fuck up. Watch Ash be awesome despite fucking up. Later that night, we head on over to the Spin party with our friend, Damien. 80% spin. 20% party. What does that even mean? Not sure. Moving on..

Saturday was the day of what was originally supposed to be two shows. One at the Lizard King showcase, one at the Lizard King afterparty.

We meet everybody up at the rehearsal studio. Run through the set. It starts raining. Worrying ensues due to the fact we're playing on an outdoor stage in a few hours.

Load-in goes as planned. Claire and Martin show up. Robert shows up. It's awesome to see Robert, since he lives in Vegas we don't get many chances to hang out with him. We did stay the night with him in Vegas though, and that night will forever live in infamy. "Where's the Beat Box Batallion??" ..Nevermind.

Show goes as planned, despite some minor tuning issues. We get off stage, start relaxing, re-energizing for the afterparty show. Martin comes up and informs us that we have to play again. So, tuning issues resolved, we get back on stage at the Lizard King showcase and play one more time.

I'm beginning to realize how verbose and long winded this is.. Shit shit shit, I'll start summarizing.

Moved on to the afterparty to play the 3rd show of the night at this seafood place called McCormick and Schmicks. Had some near disastrous power problems that almost prevented the afterparty show from happening.

A wonderful buffet was on hand, courtesy of Lizard King and prepared by McCormick and Schmicks. In hindsight, I realize I was led to believe certain items on this buffet were chicken, when in fact, it was all seafood. Damn you Claire! Delicious nonetheless.

Load-out. Get to sleep around 5. Wake up, head home. Proceed to watch A-ha live in Norway at Toby's.

Voila. SXSW '05.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://greatergoodtx.blogspot.com/2005/03/ok-sxsw_28.html' title='ok.. Doesn't that sound interesting?
No, no, it doesn't. But read it anyway.

THE PLAYERS (people we will mention often, that unless specifically identified, will be detrimental to the coherence of this blog):

J.R.
